The winter months between the old and new karting schedules are often referred to as the ‘silly-season’, where drivers often look to join new operations and move to new equipment. For the prominent teams like Aluminos, there is no real ‘off-season’, as work continues from the last race of one season through to the opening event of the new year. Included in the tireless preparation that Team Aluminos has put in over the last few months is the addition of long-time associate and friend Fritz Leesmann to the driver roster for the 2014 season. The two-time Superkarts! USA Pro Tour S1 Pro Stock Moto champion is set to pilot the new yet very successful Aluminos chassis during the upcoming SKUSA Pro Tour season, including the SKUSA SuperNationals XVIII in Las Vegas come November.
Aluminos Logo“I’ve had the chance to watch first-hand how Fritz has grown as a driver and a person over the years,” stated Aluminos owner Rob Soares. “He’s been like family for many years. Behind the wheel, he is a very talented driver, however outside the seat, his work ethic is second to none. No matter the task, he gets the job done. Many of our drivers under the tent have already worked with Fritz as a driver coach, and they know that he is a great asset. His addition to our already knowledgeable roster of mechanics, tuners and driver coaches elevates our program even more. It was his own decision to come and work with Aluminos full-time, and I, along with the rest of the crew, couldn’t be happier to have Fritz with us.”
Leesmann is among the top drivers in the United States in all forms of the sport. In 2010, the northern California native became the first-ever S1 Pro Tour champion, and came back in 2012 to earn his second title, both in a working relationship with Aluminos. The 27-year old is a two-time Rotax Challenge of the Americas DD2 champion, representing the United States as part of Team USA in 2012 and 2013.

“It’s great to commit 100% of my time with Rob and the team at Aluminos for the 2014 season,” commented Leesmann, while at the shop preparing for the upcoming California ProKart Challenge event. “I’ve been with the operation here and there over the years, but now I’ve pledged my full support. My goal is to help continue to help in any way I can, spending more time with the race team while providing driver coaching and tuning throughout the year. The Aluminos chassis has already picked up some impressive results, and I’m really looking forward to my first race once again as part of Team Aluminos.”
Team Aluminos will have the benefit of Leesmann at the race shop throughout the week and then trackside for the many regional events that are scheduled throughout California this season. Next on the calendar is the second round of the California ProKart Challenge at the Willow Springs International Raceway on February 28-March 1. The race team showed strong results at the opening round in Buttonwillow, marked by a podium finish for S4 driver Fernando Diaz. Aluminos chassis had the top qualifier in both S1 Pro and S2 Semi-Pro thanks to Cory Milne and Will Preston. Aluminos is also preparing for the opening round of the Red Line Oil Karting Championship in Northern California on March 29-30 at the SimracewayPerformanceKartingCenter in Sonoma.
